EchoStar unveiled Android-powered hybrid DVB set-top box – the HDX-410. The new product can act as a powerful multi-room solution, while enabling TV operators and telcos to deliver a wide range of DVB and IP-based services to their customers — broadcast and on demand TV included. The system supports the industry’s leading digital rights management and middleware solutions, while its ultra-low power operation meets European energy efficiency requirements. Moreover, because the HDX-410 platform is based on widely-established open standard technologies, it is able to interact with other devices within the home.

Specs wise, EchoStar’s product uses 5000DMIPS+ dual-core processor, has 1GB of RAM and 4GB of built-in storage. In addition, it supports Wi-Fi 802.11n connectivity, as well as Ethernet, USB 2.0 and HDMI, while Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is running the show. Alongside the set-top box, EchoStar also announced an SDK that will allow third-party developers to make apps for the HDX-410. We’ll see which telco will be the first to offer this system…
