Xiaomi appears to be gearing up for a double launch in India. The Redmi Note 17 and the Poco M8 Plus have both turned up in India’s Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification database, according to Gadgets360. BIS certification is a required step before any phone can be legally sold in India, so a listing there is one of the clearest signs that a launch is getting close.
The two devices were listed under separate model numbers. The Redmi Note 17 carries the model number 24116PN9EI, while the Poco M8 Plus is listed as 24116PN9PI. The shared base in those model numbers strongly suggests the two phones share the same hardware, with Xiaomi planning to sell them under different brand names for different audiences. This is a strategy Xiaomi has used many times before, particularly in India where both Redmi and Poco compete in the budget-to-mid-range space.
India is one of Xiaomi’s most important markets, and the Redmi Note series has historically been one of the bestselling phone lineups in the country. A new entry in that series is always a big deal for buyers looking for solid specs at a reasonable price.
At this point, neither the full specifications nor the pricing for either phone have been officially confirmed. What the BIS listing tells us is limited but meaningful: the phones exist, they have Indian model numbers, and Xiaomi has taken a concrete regulatory step toward selling them here.
The Poco M8 Plus angle is worth paying attention to. Poco started as a Xiaomi sub-brand specifically built for India, and it has built a loyal following among buyers who want performance without a premium price tag. Launching a phone under both the Redmi and Poco names at the same time lets Xiaomi reach two slightly different sets of buyers without developing completely separate hardware.
There is no official word yet on a launch date. But once a phone clears BIS, announcements tend to follow within weeks rather than months. Xiaomi has not made any public statement about either device at the time of writing.
