Telefónica Digital is teaming-up with augmented reality platform Aurasma. Under the deal — which BTW is a major milestone for an augmented reality platform — the Spanish carrier group will integrate Aurasma’s technology into the range of media services it offers brands and advertisers. The AR capability will be offered alongside other technologies such as location-based marketing and mobile coupons, with Telefónica helping brands to introduce new levels of interactivity and customer engagement into their advertising campaigns.

The partnership will initially be rolled out in the UK through O2 and offered to brands through O2 Media. After that, Telefónica will roll it out to other markets it serves.

As for those of you who don’t know what Aurasma is all about, we have a short video from the TED conference, demoing their technology. It’s pretty cool…

Since launch in June 2011, Aurasma attracted over 8,000 commercial partners to its platform and reached more than four million downloads of its app.
