Motorola has started rolling out the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich for the Atrix 2. Firmware version 67.21.125 packs a ton of goodies, including UI changes, new and improved features. More precisely, here’s what you get:

UI changes:

  • Updated colors, font, icons, and animations. Added adjustable text size.
  • Enhanced lockscreen with quick access to dialer, messaging, camera and homescreen.
  • Homescreen folders that let you group apps and shortcuts.
  • Updated All Apps screen to include access to both Apps and Widgets.
  • Enhanced notifications window with access to settings menu and new swipe to dismiss functionality for individual notifications.
  • Reorganized and easier to navigate Settings menu that includes toggles for airplane mode, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
  • Redesigned keyboard for faster input with improved error correction and word suggestion.

Improved Features

  • Enhanced Email app with address auto-completion, quick response emails, and searching across folders and subfolders.
  • Improved camera with time-lapse video, snapshots during video recording, ability to use volume keys as shutter button, zoom control and flash-assisted low light focus.
  • Upgraded voice input engine to allow for continuous dictation, pausing and inclusion of punctuation.
  • Updated webtop interface to an Android 4.0 tablet-like experience with key apps optimized for the resolution and screen size of external monitors.
  • Added latest versions of AT&T and Google apps.

New Features

  • Added SMARTACTIONS app that automates everyday tasks and suggests ways to personalize your phone.
  • Face Unlock
  • People App – which replaces the contacts app.
  • Added capability to take screenshots by holding both the power and volume down keys for a few seconds.

If you still don’t see the new update, you can manually check from Settings -> About phone -> System updates. Make sure your Atrix 2 has enough juice the finish the process, though.

Yeeeeah, I wrote the 1st comment!  why is the atrix 2,Soooo late with the update.  other phones are already at jelly bean.  I just bought the atrix 2, to replace the Nexus s from sprint, cause of all the dropped calls.  I have had jelly bean for weeks and I like it.  Oh well sacrificing Jelly bean for less dropped calls, and hopefully a better 4g network via Simple Mobile/ Tmobile, then sprints poor excuse for 4g.

I’ve heard it is in a Soak Testing phase until 9/29/12. So the OTA update probably wont be available until sometime next week or after.

Its a “soak test” to a selected group on the motorola forums…official update to the public will be in a few more days, hopefully.

Already got the update here in Kolkata, India more than a week ago. Lots of improvements but there is one thing I miss. With Gingerbread, when I connected the Atrix 2 to a PC via USB, there was a ‘Charge Only’ option for the USB connection along with other options e.g. ‘Mass Storage’, ‘Media Sync’. The advantage of ‘Charge Only’ option was that I could charge the Atrix 2 from the PC while installing apps on it through wi-fi or 3G. But now I cannot do that because it mounts the added SD card storage while connecting the phone to the USB and so that does not allow installing apps or using most apps on the phone while the phone is connected to the PC via USB. Any alternative for this?
