GSMA Mobile for Development is the organization’s new brand for development fund

To better reflect the “enabling role of mobile in developing markets,” GSMA decided to rename the GSMA Development Fund to GSMA Mobile for Development. Alongside the new name, GSMA also announced that Dr. Nasser Marafih, CEO of Qtel Group, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of the new fund.

Since its creation, the GSMA Development Fund has partnered with 35 carriers across a range of programmes, rolling out 53 services and positively impacting the lives of tens of millions of people across 30 countries. It has identified opportunities for social, economic and environmental impact and helped to stimulate the development of scalable, life-enhancing mobile services through programmes such as Community Power from Mobile, Green Power for Mobile, Mobile Money for the Unbanked (MMU) and mWomen.
