Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher of AllThingsD talked with Eric Schmidt of Google at an event held at Manhattan”s 92Y. The hour-long conversation discusses Apple’s Map debacle and the platform war between Google and Apple.

“The Android-Apple platform fight is the defining fight in the industry today,” said Schmidt. He notes that this race is like nothing technology has ever seen before.

“The growth rate of mobile adoption exceeds everyone’s expectations every quarter, says Schmidt, and is bigger in scale than any other previous platform battle, including that between Microsoft and Apple.

Though he speaks fondly of Apple, Schmidt couldn’t resist pointing out that he has seen data which shows Android is outselling iOS four to one. When talking about mapping technology, he also quips that “Apple has learned that maps are hard.” The full interview is available on AllThingsD’s website and definitely worth a watch if you have an hour to spare.
