Microsoft prepping 3 to 5 million Surface tablets for the holidays

According to The Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is preparing 3 to 5 million Surface tablet units to ship this fall. At 3 to 5 million units, Microsoft is expecting sales to rival that of the Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 tablets, both of which saw similar production levels ahead of launch. Apple generally orders around 15 million units built ahead of each iPad launch, and is expected to have ordered around 10 million iPad Minis.

The move is a bold one given the leaked price points this morning, though perhaps Microsoft can coax a few users to buy the Surface with the over the top commercial it aired this morning.
