After some back and forth on the subject, it seems that Google is indeed prepping its own Maps application for iOS devices, according to a report from Wall Street Journal. How Apple will react to the Google Maps application submission is another story, but Google is making the effort.
Apparently the search giant as offered up a test version of Google Maps for iOS, and is currently putting the final touches on the application before it officially submits it for approval in Apple’s App Store. It was just last week that we heard the rumor that Apple would likely reject the Google’s Maps application, as it would compete directly with Apple Maps. That said, Apple might not have much of a choice in the matter if it wants to keep its users happy.
Apple Maps seemed to have gotten off on the wrong foot with a lot of people out of the gate. With a handful of bugs, inaccurate results, and some rather bad turn by turn navigation, Apple’s maps solution still needs quite a bit of work. It’ll take some time, but Apple Maps will definitely improve, but users are looking for something that works well now, and Google’s solution is what they want.
While we still don’t know when the Google Maps for iOS will be submitted into Apple’s App Store, we’ll be sure to bring you the latest as more details unfold.
