Microsoft integrates with Sina Weibo for its Chinese user base

Twitter may be cool in the West, but in China – they use Sino Weibo. As you can imagine, the service is heavily censored to make it acceptable for ruling elites. And to make Sina Weibo more accessible for its users, Microsoft is integrating the popular social network into its products and services, namely Windows Phone, Windows 8 and SkyDrive. This in turn will allow the Sina Weibo community to quickly share things they find interesting with other users of the service — 400 million of them, according to some estimates.

Yup, this is the right way to extend one’s market share in the ever-growing mobile market of China. And even though not many folks have a Windows Phone there at the moment, the situation may start to change now that Huawei launched its first Windows Phone device. We’ll see…
