Pantech is the latest entrant to the phablet market as its gearing towards launching a device of its own with a 5.9-inch full HD (1080p) screen in its own backyard. Yup, South Koreans will have another big smartphone to buy soon, one that fits somewhere between the Samsung Galaxy Note II and the newly announced Huawei Ascend Mate.

The Pantech Vega No.6 will have specs comparable to similar products that include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM, 3G/4G and Wi-Fi connectivity, 13-megapixel rear camera, front-facing camera, a ton of built-in storage and so on.

Release date is still unknown and we also don’t know whether this monster phone will ever be exported to the Western hemisphere. Pantech has had a good relations with few U.S. carriers though none of them offered a single high-end product made by the third-largest Korean handset maker. Perhaps that will change with the device like the Vega No.6, perhaps not. We’ll have to wait and see…

I’m not a big fan of tablets but I do look forward to see more competition in every market. So Pantech launching a phablet is a good thing. ;)
