If you a) live in India; and b) don’t want to pay a premium for a well-known, global brand, you may want to take a look at Xolo’s latest smartphone – A1000. A direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Grand (which sells for Rs. 21,500 – about $400), it has a same-sized, 5-inch screen but with 720p HD (instead of WVGA) resolution and a price tag of just Rs. 14,999 (around $275). In addition, the A1000 also comes with MediaTek’s 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.2-megapixel front-facing one, 2,100mAh battery, while Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is running the show. Plus, let’s not forget 4GB of built-in memory that can be expanded with microSD cards, Bluetooth 4.0, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity. Sounds pretty cool to me and I’m hoping Xolo will expand its footprint and bring this baby to the Western hemisphere to provide consumers with more (affordable) options to choose from. Not that we have any such information or something…

We want something like this in the west. An inexpensive device that offers this feature set. Sure a quad-core processor would be even better but that would mean I’m asking too much. :)

Theres another phone called ‘Micromax Canvas HD’ launched with same price tag. It has a quad core processor. Though its little thickier at 10.5 mm compared to this ‘A1000′ which is only 8.8 mm. I guess its time to look beyond samsung in India :-)
