HP, known for webOS and its failed mobile strategy, is jumping into the tablet market with a newly announced Android tablet. The Slate 7 will take on the Nexus 7 in the growing tablet marketplace. It’s main selling point will be its price — an ultra-low $169.

The HP Slate  specs shake out as follows:

  • 7-inch, 1024×600 FFS+ LCD screen
  • 1.6Ghz  Dual Core processor
  • 1GB or RAM
  • 8GB onboard storage with microSD expansion
  • 3-megapixel camera on the back
  • VGA camera on the front
  • Beats Audio
  • Google services like Google Now, Google Play and more
  • HP ePrint  application
  • stock Android 4.1

HP will start selling the Slate 7 in the US sometime in April 2013
