The Samsung Galaxy S4 will have Qi wireless charging by way of a backplate. What’s weird about this new revelation is we had no idea that the GS4 supported this wireless technology. Samsung flat-out dropped the ball when it failed to announce this feature on stage last week.
However, thankfully, Qi decided to take matters into its own hands, issuing this statement from its press release:
The new Samsung Galaxy S4 uses the Qi wireless charging standard in its optional back battery cover and wireless charging pad accessories, as demonstrated at Samsung Unpacked 2013. The accessories are fully compatible with all Qi chargers and Qi-compatible phones.
Of course, the company left out details about price and when the accessories would hit stores. For those who don’t know, Qi runs on this advanced system that uses over-the-air charging called A4WP. Qi works with many of the top wireless and handheld companies in the world such as Huawei, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Sony, Verizon Wireless, BlackBerry, Texas Instruments, Toshiba, etc.
This addition is definitely an awesome feature that represents today’s times where everything is wirelessly connected. If you’re into 3D print and love the Galaxy, this Qi partnership is great for you.
