Android to achieve 1 billion activations by the end of 2013, 1.5 million added daily

Android milestones continue to pile up, as the home of the green robot finds itself closing in on its 1 billionth activation. Google Chairman Eric Schmidt made this comment speaking at a Dive Into Mobile conference earlier today. Schmidt claimed the operating system is now activating 1.5 million devices daily, and by the end of the year the company should see a billion activations. This total comes from the OS’ five year existence.

The Google Chairman delivered more factoids such as Android is now available at 320 cellular providers in more than 160 countries. He also said that he expects Samsung and others to make smartphones “significantly cheaper” in the next two years. Of course, this comes to no surprise as the search giant continues to push forward in its widening lead in market share.
