We’ve seen a number of different iPhone chargers in our days. Some of them attach to the smartphone, while some others are external boxes that use a cable to connect to your shiny handset (and other gadgets for that matter). Infinity Cell fits the former group but it does come with a twist. You see, this charger — which is currently raising money at Kickstarter — uses kinetic energy to provide juice for the iPhone 4 and 4S (iPhone 5 version will likely follow shortly). Whether you’re walking, running or biking, it will absorb that energy and put it to good use, allowing you to spend more time talking, texting, surfing the web, playing games and so on.
Shaking the Infinity Cell for 30 minutes provides enough power to give the iPhone a 20% charge, while 3 hours is enough to fully charge the iPhone. That doesn’t mean you should become a fitness professional all of a sudden – you’ll get additional power only by walking or biking to work, which is pretty neat.
The guys behind the project are also making a dedicated app that works in pair with the Infinity Cell to track your progress, including energy savings and carbon offsets. The gamified experience kicks in to keep you motivated to keep doing what’s good for you and the planet.
Pretty cool I would say and definitely worth $125. Check out the video below to see how it all fits together and then decide whether you’re willing to help this project…
