ASUS Fonepad with 1.6GHz Intel processor and 32GB storage announced in Taiwan

ASUS announced a slightly beefed-up version of the Fonepad in Taiwan. Instead of rocking a 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2420 processor and 16GB of internal storage, the new model comes with faster 1.6GHz Z2460 CPU and 32GB of memory (plus a microSD card slot if that’s not enough for you). We’ve no information when (or if) this model will be released in the West. We do know that ASUS’ gear is much more expensive in its own backyard than in other parts of the world. For instance, the “old” Fonepad is selling locally for NT$8,990 (about $300), while the new version could be yours for NT$10,900 (around $360).

Anyhow, we never really understood a device like Fonepad and are having hard time imagining anyone using it to make phone calls. Simply put – it’s too big to carry around…

Try holding the Fonepad next to your ear. It’s kinda stupid. :)

I spend an average of about 1-2 hours a month total making phone calls so that wouldn’t concern me really. Finding a place to carry it would be the issue for me.
