Sony Requiring PS4 Games to Support Vita Remote Play

Whether or not you’ve ever been interested in the Sony PS Vita, it’s certainly going to receive a bit more value when the Playstation 4 arrives. Sony recently confirmed a report from EuroGamer that all Playstation 4 games must support the PS Vita Remote Play feature.

Remote Play has been around for sometime, but it certainly hasn’t received the attention it deserves. With PS4 games requiring support for Remote Play, it will open up a greater library of games for the Vita to use, ultimately bringing more value to the handheld gaming device.

Of course, there are a few exceptions for PS4 games. If a certain title utilizes the new stereoscopic camera for the PS4, it obviously won’t need to support for Vita’s Remote Play feature, as it simply wouldn’t work as intended.

Sony’s not without competition on remote video game playing, though. One of the coolest upcoming gadgets that turns an Android devices into a video game playing monster is the NVIDIA Shield. The Shield allows the user to play any of the games found on the Google Play Store or stream Steam games from their NVIDIA GTX Kepler based PC. When we got some hands-on time with the NVIDIA Shield and streamed games like Street Fighter and Assassin’s Creed III, we were blown away. We can only hope that Sony will be able to offer up a similar experience.

It may be a pain for developers to make their PS4 games support the PS Vita’s Remote Play feature, but we’re sure that gamers out there aren’t complaining one bit.

Now that we know the PS Vita will be receiving a healthy serving of playable PS4 games down the road, does it make you want to grab one now?
