The Gmail app for iOS received a new update today from Google. It brings two important updates: support for the new Gmail inbox and improved notifications settings.
The new Gmail inbox isn’t technically an entirely new inbox, but instead it now conveniently and automatically organizes your inbox into folders according to the type of each email. You can enable up to five folders. There’s the Primary folder for regular emails from contacts, Social for emails from social networks, Promotions with coupons and other offers you might be subscribed to, Updates for news and notices, and Forums for forum replies and the like.
It was announced for desktop email about a week ago and now you’ll be able to access these new main inbox folders within the Gmail for iOS app.
The improved notifications allows you to tweak when you get notified. You can receive a notification for all messages, messages marked as important, or none at all. If you have multiple accounts within the app, you can adjust these settings for each individual account as well. Head into the settings panel within the app to manage the notifications.
You can nab Google’s free Gmail app in the App Store now.
