After much speculation, the top-notch Nokia Lumia Icon for Verizon Wireless has been officially announced. The device is the most powerful Windows Phone 8 powered smartphone to date, and will be available for $199.99 with a two-year contract through Verizon.

The Lumia Icon continues Nokia’s penchant for exceptional design, adding a Verizon twist. The Lumia Icon looks sleeker than other Nokia Lumia devices, and is all shiny bezels and screen. The Nokia Lumia Icon will come in black or white color options.

As far as specs go, this Windows Phone is a powerhouse. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 runs the show, clocked at an amazing 2.2GHz. The Lumia Icon touts 2 GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. A 5 inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD OLED display commands attention, and is protected by a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. The screen also has increased sensitivity, allowing users wearing gloves to use the touchscreen without any problems. The Lumia Icon runs the latest Windows Phone 8 software with the Nokia Lumia Black and Windows Phone 8 GDR3 updates in place.

‘The Lumia Icon comes with Nokia’s latest software, Lumia Black, and supports Nokia’s highly-regarded photo and video apps: Nokia Camera, Nokia Refocus and Nokia Storyteller. That’s on top of all the high-profile, 3rd party apps already in the Windows Phone Store, including Instagram, Vine, Vyclone, GoPro, Hipstamatic Oggl, Netflix, Redbox Instant, Beats Music and Xbox Video, just to call out a few.’

As with most recent Nokia Lumia phones, the camera is really the star of the show. The PureView camera touts a 20 MP sensor complete with ZEISS Optics and Auto Focus, optical image stabilization, a dual LED flash and a front-facing camera with a 2 MP sensor. The device also captures stereo surround sound and features single finger zoom.

The Nokia Lumia Icon will be available from Verizon Wireless on February 20th for $199.99 with a new two-year contract. While you’ll have to wait until February 20th to get your hands on the Lumia Icon from Verizon, the shiny smartphone can be preordered from the Microsoft Store. Customers who pre-order the Lumia Icon before March 16th through Microsoft will receive a free wireless charging accessory.

Will this beauty help convert smartphone users to Windows Phone? The jury is still out. We’ll have a full review for you as soon as we get our grubby little hands on the beast.
