AppCity.com launches like a global mobile app store, but it’s an app catalog

I know many people don’t like the idea of reading about a “yet another app store,” but I’m a big fan of competition and when I got an email in my inbox informing me that the “first global online store for mobile applications” AppCity.com has been launched, I decided to check it out.

Unfortunately, I was kinda disappointed. AppCity is not actually a store, but more of a catalog. When I click on some Symbian title I get redirected to the Ovi Store. The same is obviously true with iPhone apps and games. So what’s the point you ask? Well, you could think of it as a central point for all your app needs, no matter which phone you happen to use at that very moment. If you switch phones – you could still find apps for your current device on AppCity.

According to the short press release I received, there are more than 225,000 apps in the catalog for iPhone, Android, Nokia, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile users. The site is available in English and French, though you can quickly figure out they are a Paris, France-based company as some of the pages are still not translated to English. The plan is to launch Spanish and Chinese version of the site by the end of the summer…

And that’s about all I could say about AppCity.com. Hop over to www.appcity.com and see if you find it useful. It’s in my bookmarks and I plan to check them out after some time again to see how they’re going. To be completely honest, I’m not going to use them at the moment…
