Custom, homemade ringtones on iPhone v1.1.2

iTunes brings homemade ringtones with iPhone v1.1.2Well, well, well. What do we have here? Apple’s newest, recently released, iPhone firmware seems to have an enticing trick up its sleeve. It seems that the iPhone v1.1.2 firmware allows custom, homemade ringtones to be uploaded to the iPhone.

We said that we’d swear off the iPhone v1.1.2 update unless Apple offered some truly enticing features. And, we’re not all that impressed with a little ringtone-making mojo (especially if we have to sacrifice our third-party apps) – but some of you might be. Once the iPhone v1.1.2 firmware gets the jailbreak treatment, we’ll be on board. Until then, it’s up to you if you wanna update.

In case you forgot. The trick to home-brewing your iPhone ringtones is to make a 30-40 second .m4a audio clip and then just rename it as a .m4r file. Double-clicking the .m4r file will automatically sync it with iTunes and make be available for your next iPhone sync. If all that renaming-jazz is a bit too much for you, check this out.

Update: We should note that  iTunes 7.5 is also required to get home-brew ringtones to sync up with your iPhone.
