People in Australia (and all around the world) are relying on their mobile phones more than ever. One solid indicator of the mobile phone usage is the number of fines issued to people who use their mobile phones while driving.

According to Office of State Revenue, during the period between 2002 and 2003, just 12,812 mobile phone fines were issued – worth $2,818,640. On the contrast, over the past five years with the 30,782 fines, State Treasury managed to collect $7,118,727! That’s Australian Dollar but what the heck, it’s a steady source of income, don’t you think?
Hey, officer, “leave the drivers alone…” 🙂
