Samsung P240 DuoS handset with dual SIM cardsThere’s just something about having a handset with dual SIM card slots that’s so cool. It lets you rock multiple (well, two, really) carriers in a single handset. If for some reason you use different carriers and find your pockets weighed down with two different handsets, Samsung’s got your back. The handset manufacturing giant’s dual SIM-card offering, the Samsung D880 DuoS, does the whole two SIM-card thing with ease. One problem, it commands a $700 retail price.

Well, Samsung is apparently working on bringing a couple more reasonably priced DuoS handsets to market. Smape has it from Samsung’s Russian head, Yoonsoo Kim, that Samsung plans to bring the Samsung P240 DuoS handset to market later this year. The new DuoS handset retains the sought-after dual-SIM capability and offers Bluetooth 2.0, 2 megapixel camera, microSD card slot, FM radio with RDS, 2-inch display, and mpeg4 player – all packed in a slim 115.1×48.6×15.7 mm package powered by a Philips PNX5230+OM6357 chipset and a tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900Mhz) radio.

The Samsung P240 DuoS will be offered at a more palatable 270 EUR (about $416 USD) later this year. Kim also mentioned that a Windows Mobile powered DuoS handset is also in the pipeline for later this year. And, Symbian owners might also get some DuoS-love, but not in time to make the 2009 New Year’s party.

There are other dual-SIM wielding handsets out there already, so keep that in mind.
