Emerging markets are the place to be in. Handset makers may not get the NSeries-like high margins, but they’re aiming to sell millions there, and to push their brands forward. In that context, Nokia today announced a bunch of low-end devices for the emerging markets, with estimated retail prices, before applicable taxes and subsidies ranging from 35 to 90 EUR.
The new Nokia handsets announced today include:
- Nokia 1200 and Nokia 1208 are aimed at the first-time mobile phone consumer worldwide offering such (basic) features as call-time tracking and multi-phonebooks. The Nokia 1200 phone is offered with a monochrome screen, while the Nokia 1208 features a colour VGA screen.
- Nokia 1650 and Nokia 2660 are set to “elevate the entry market to a new level.” Both of these devices are equipped with music-on-the-go via FM radio and MP3-grade ringtones. While the 1650 has a candybar form factor, the 2660 is clamshell device with dual screens, and also comes with more features, including the Bluetooth support, an integrated handsfree speaker function and more memory.
- Nokia 2505 adds a bit of style to the low end market, with its smooth-back design that makes the phone ergonomic to hold. The 2505 is a CDMA clamshell device that will include the pre-loaded games, a 300-contact phonebook, up to 3 hours of talk time and 156 hours of stand-by time.
- Nokia 2630 and Nokia 2760 are two devices that will deliver imaging and Bluetooth technology to the entry market. At a mere 9.9 mm, Nokia 2630 is the thinnest handset in Nokia’s portfolio. On the other hand, Nokia 2760 is more stylish (and thicker) and also packs more memory and a GPRS connectivity support.
