Alltel WirelessAlltel launched a new service for its customers, called City ID, enabling them to identify the location of incoming phone numbers by displaying the city and state assigned to virtually any landline or wireless phone number in North America.

The application that gives users access to the new service will initially be available on the LG AX275, with more phones to follow in the near future. At the moment, Alltel is offering a free 7-day trial of City ID, and later devices will include an even longer, 15-day free trial period. After the free trial ends, the application will be available for a low monthly charge of $1.99.

Commenting on the new service announcement, senior VP of wireless products Wade McGill said “City ID will provide our customers with additional control over the calls that they choose to answer. Customers frequently do not recognize an incoming phone number, and this application will provide the additional information to help users decide if they want to answer the call.”
