The REAL PSP Phone – BT and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Team Up For VoIP Calls

PSP owners rejoice! You will soon be able to make VoIP calls over a WiFi connection on your uber-handheld-gaming device. BT has inked a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to give phone functionality to the PSP. Unlike those half-baked, PSP-rips that we brought you earlier, this is the real deal. The actual gaming unit will be transformed into a VoIP phone, capable of making calls to PCs, fixed line phones, and even mobile phones. The service will be rolled out, initially, in the UK and will only work through WiFi connections – either at home or at one of 2,000 BT wireless hotspots peppered throughout the UK.

BT states that, “This partnership intends to integrate PSP with the BT Broadband video and voice ‘softphone’ products already available in the market today. In the following months, additional features will be launched to enable calls and messages to PCs, fixed lines and mobiles.”
