Telus Plants a Tree for Every Recycled Phone

recycle-cell-phoneOn top of their support of Earth Hour coming up this Saturday (remember to shut off the lights at 8:30 PM, y’all), Canadian carrier Telus renewed a pledge to plant a tree for every phone returned. They’ve been doing it since last year, but it’s still a great way of simultaneously cutting down on e-waste as well as rebuilding green space. Rogers has something similar in place where they donated to the Phones-for-Food charity for every returned phone, and Bell has a Blue Box program which will donate to the World Wildlife Foundation for every returned handset. South of the border, Verizon donates to a domestic violence hotline for phone recycling, T-Mobile donates to a Big Brother-style charity, and AT&T and Sprint and are both a part of the eCycling initiative. So really, it doesn’t matter what carrier you’re on – recycle your phone once you’re done with it.

For more info on Telus’ green initiatives, hit up their recycling site.
