Etisalat and RIM Introduce the BlackBerry Storm smartphone for the First Time in the Gulf

Unique “Clickable” Touch-Screen Smartphone Combines Advanced Multimedia Capabilities with Powerful Communications Features

Dubai, UAE and Waterloo, ON, Canada – Etisalat  and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today introduced the highly anticipated BlackBerry® Storm™ 9500 smartphone, featuring a unique “clickable” touch-screen, to customers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).  The BlackBerry Storm smartphone’s powerful platform and exceptional multimedia and communications capabilities give users an edge at work and at play, providing business customers and consumers alike with personalized entertainment, information and communications at their fingertips. Etisalat is the first to bring the much awaited BlackBerry Storm smartphone to the UAE.

“Our customers can expect a great experience based on our ability to innovate and offer comprehensive service ranging from an application portal, the latest devices and competitively priced packages,” said Abdulla Hashim, VP, Business Solutions, Etisalat. “The BlackBerry Storm leverages Etisalat’s HSPA mobile broadband service with coverage of up to 99% of the populated areas in the UAE and roaming in 120 countries worldwide, to offer a perfect blend of connectivity, flexibility and convenience.” He added, “This latest launch with RIM will create even more momentum in a market where Etisalat has been very successful in helping customers reap the productivity benefits of the BlackBerry platform.”

“We are delighted to support Etisalat in launching the BlackBerry Storm smartphone in the UAE.  The innovative BlackBerry Storm excels in communications and multimedia capabilities and features the ‘clickable’ SurePress™ touch-screen,” commented Khaled Kefel, General Manager, Middle East at RIM.  “Both business users and consumers will appreciate the significantly advanced touch-screen experience that this smartphone brings to the market.”

The BlackBerry Storm smartphone’s unique ‘clickable’ touch screen gives users an unparalleled experience — the display depresses ever so slightly when the screen is pressed, enhancing the touch interface for both typing and navigation. The stylish smartphone also boasts superior performance, a stunning display, 3G (HSPA) network support, desktop-style web pages and advanced multimedia capabilities including a 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording, a powerful media player and an expandable memory card slot. The BlackBerry Storm can also be synchronised with iTunes®* so customers can enjoy their music on the move; and with the BlackBerry® Music Gateway, they can even enjoy songs through their home stereo. The BlackBerry Storm also features a first class phone, easy access to popular IM and social networking services, built-in GPS and the industry’s leading email and messaging capabilities – all designed to give users an incredibly powerful, fast and intuitive mobile experience.
