SmartyPig mobile-izes its social banking/savings service

SmartyPig

Social banking service, SmartyPig, is going mobile with a brand new, optimized-for-small-screens website. Located at m.smartypig.com, the new site allows users to view the current status of their savings goals and friends’ goals, track transaction history, and make additional transfers of money — all while on-the-go. SmartyPig’s website best renders on the Apple iPhone, but owners of other mobile devices can use the service, just as well.

Personally, I dig SmartyPig’s idea and find it more than interesting. It’s neat if you could organize with your buddies and encourage each other to save more. This is especially true in the tough economic times we’re currently experiencing.

That said, it’s kinda fair to argue they shoot for the niche market, for new generation that is taking new technologies for granted. As a matter of fact, the official release says it’s “younger, plugged-in customer” they are pitching.

Finally, to make the service more compelling and to further sweeten the deal, SmartyPig offers a competitive 3.05% (APY) interest rate in the U.S. and provides customers with cash boosts up to 6% when a savings goal is reached from best-in-class retail partners like Royal Caribbean, Pottery Barn, Best Buy, Amazon and Home Depot. Nice!
