artcarrierpigeoncnnMobile phones in prisons are a growing concern. Many prisons have taken steps to make it illegal to smuggle or own a cellphone within prison walls, but that only means those nefarious type will be upping their smuggling-game. Case in point – a carrier pigeon was recently discovered trying to smuggle a pint-sized briefcase full of cellphone parts into a Colombian prison! Needless to say, this “jailbird” won’t be flying the coop anymore.

The discovery of a carrier-pigeon-as-cellphone-smuggler worries Colombian prison authorities. Unlike cellphones smuggled into prison inside a birthday cake or bodily orifice, carrier pigeons really can’t be stopped. In fact, this particular carrier pigeon would likely have succeeded in smuggling cellphone parts into prison had it not been for some rain.

We have to hand it to whoever first thought to use pigeons as prison mules. It may not be legal, but it sure is clever!
