With a display size of 4.1-inches at a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, the display is among one of the sharpest in the portable device category. The color range is another story, it only displays 65K colors, which is rather low for today’s standards.
I managed to get roughly 3 hours of web browsing time with max brightness. When left connected to a WiFi access point with display off, I got roughly 10.5 hours. I know in most cases I won’t be browsing more than 3 hours in a typical day, but it makes me feel uneasy when using it on the go, frantically looking for power sockets every where I go, that’s just no fun. This is definitely one area the Nokia N800 needs work on, if they do continue with this product line, I hope the next model has an ample amount of battery life.
Nokia has definitely succeeded in providing consumers with easy access to the majority of Internet related features. Although the Flash 7 still needs some work, Google Video and Youtube video streaming was rather bad. If that’s the only reason you wanted the Nokia N800 I’d recommend holding off until they fix the issue.
For chatting and e-mail composition purposes I found the touch-screen keyboard a bit uncomfortable to use over extended periods of time, I still prefer a hardware thumb keyboard.
I’d definitely recommend this product to people looking to get a desktop like web browsing experience in a portable, everything else is just icing on the cake. That’s if you are willing to put up with the $400 price tag of course.
