France’s Vivendi, a media company that is also known as a majority owner of French SFR, is reportedly in talks with soon-to-be-launched Indian mobile network operator Datacom Solutions over a possible stake acquisition. According to the Economic Times source, a person close to the matter said: “Officials from Vivendi were in India last week and held two rounds of talks with Datacom team in Delhi… They want a majority stake. Both the sides will meet again in a few weeks to take the discussion forward.” Unsurprisingly, no party has issued a comment on the report.

Datacom holds a license allowing it to roll out mobile services across India, having obtained spectrum in most circles. In addition, the company has also applied for national long-distance (NLD) and international long-distance (ILD) licenses, and hopes to establish a pan-India network.

For the record, this isn’t the first time a foreign player is interested in Datacom. UAE’s Etisalat and Turkey’s Turkcell expressed their interests earlier, but have halted plans as a result of the global economic crisis.
