Hands on Sony Ericsson P990i

Finally, we got the chance to test Sony Ericsson’s flagship P990i smartphone. I won’t review it in details here, as there are already several other great in-depth reviews (links at the bottom). I’ll just try to point out the P990i’s good and bad sides.

Sony Ericsson P990i

The good: Sony Ericsson P990i has everything a business device should have – a QWERTY keyboard, integrated Bluetooth and WLAN, a large display, a touchscreen, solid 2 MP camera with autofocus. Comes with neat apps, including Business card scanner. Great 2D/3D graphics. Solid.

The bad: It takes some time to get used to UIQ 3’s user interface. The first firmware, which comes with the phone is a little buggy (update is now available). QWERTY keyboard is pretty small, and the people with the big thumbs will have a serious problems using it. Expensive.

The bottom line: Once you get familiar with UIQ 3, you’ll love the device. Earlier UIQ 2-based device users will certainly appreciate the speed and the new apps available for the P990i. If you can get it cheaply with the contract, the P990i should be at the top of your list.
