BlackBerry Messenger Barcodes Now Shareable on Facebook

BlackBerry users can now share get friends to add them to Messenger via QR barcode scanning on Facebook, thanks to a new application. Your BBM barcode can be applied onto a faux-Berry in your profile’s sidebar, or it can be overlaid onto your profile picture in a variety of colour schemes. With that posted, any of your friends with the fancy BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 will be able to take a snapshot of your code with their camera and add you as a friend, lickety-split.

Yesterday there was some excitement surrounding scannable QR barcodes on Facebook and there was some excitement on the BlackBerry fan page about something related to BBM, but there was little indication that the two were related – who knows, Facebook may still release their own QR barcode system.  Still, this is pretty solid expansion of the BlackBerry Messenger subculture that typically stays home on the device – I’d really like to see more BBM functions breaking out of the shell in the future.

If you want to give the Facebook app a shot, it’s right over here.
