Snaptu’s app store for phones with an app store hits AT&T’s Apps Beta site

We haven’t talked about Snaptu in the past, but now when they’re on AT&T’s Apps Beta site, it’s time to give them some space on IntoMobile. Basically what they offer is an app store for phones that don’t have one, most notably those running Java ME (aka feature phones). In addition, even some of the devices that do have an app store — such as Windows Mobile and Symbian-powered smartphones — can also benefit from Snaptu’s offering.

Here’s how it works – you install and start Snaptu and you’ll be able to access additional apps, including Facebook, LinkedIn, news (RSS) readers, movie information, travel planner, Picasa web albums and so on. In total, there are about 20 apps, all of them being made by Snaptu. That, however, could change at some point in the future with opening up of the platform — we don’t have any such information at the moment, unfortunately.

All of the apps mentioned above, which are basically widgets, require some data consumption hence carriers should love the idea of adding few bucks here and there to their ARPU.

You can download Snaptu either from their website or from AT&T’s Apps Beta site.

Snaptu was originally founded in 2007 and has recently raised a Series A funding round led by Sequoia Capital. To date about 6 million users have installed Snaptu app on their phones.
