Sprint announced Samsung Seek, a new entry-level device for heavy social networking and instant messaging users. The full side-sliding QWERTY keyboard-equipped handset comes pre-loaded with clients for popular social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace; as well as client(s) for accessing favorite IM networks and an email app. In addition there’s a 2.6-inch QVGA touchscreen, 1.3-megapixel camera, media player, web browser, 3.5mm headset hack and of course a microSD memory card slot. Unfortunately the mobile data is limited to 1xRTT (no EV-DO).

Sprint is asking $29.99 for the Seek after a $50 mail-in rebate and with a two-year contract. The device is already available through Sprint’s website from where interested users (teenagers, I guess) can grab it in either “Cool Blue” or “Scarlet Red.” Additional color version, “Fantasy Pink,” will be available beginning June 6th.

Finally, it’s worth adding that with the launch of Samsung Seek, Sprint and Samsung are trialing a new recycling solution, enabling customers to reuse the packaging to ship old phones and accessories with a postage-paid paper mailing label. Sprint on its end will recycle both the equipment and the box.
