Following the iPad app, Netflix announced an iPhone app for their subscription-based video streaming service at WWDC today. Netflix was pretty forthcoming about working on the iPhone app, and have confirmed that it will be available for free sometime this summer. The iPhone app will include personalized recommendations, and remember where you left off watching on the big screen so you never miss a beat.
Netflix is pretty awesome and all, but not all online video services are quite ready to make the jump to the iPhone just yet. Hulu is currently staying with Flash because of a few necessary bits missing from HTML5, although that could just mean they’ll cook up an app from scratch rather than try to funnel viewers through their site.
Presumably you’ll still need an $8.99/month subscription, but there aren’t any details on the Netflix homepage right now. Stay tuned for more!
