U.S. Cellular has recently added a new low-end device to its portfolio. It’s the Personal Communications Devices (PCD)-made CDM8635, which is an easy to use clamshell.

Key features of the CDM8635 include:

  • Two screens – 2.2-inch internal, and 1.5-inch monochrome external
  • 1GB of flash storage and 512MB RAM (I’m not sure I understand why so much RAM is required, though)
  • 1.3-megapixel camera
  • Dedicated buttons for zoom, speakerphone, alarm and picture albums
  • 920 mAh battery that provides users with up to 4.1 hours of talk time
  • Size: 3.9 x 2.0 x 0.8 inches

In addition, the CDM8635 features readout menu message, wider font option for easier viewing, voice-activated dialing, Noise Suppressor, Slow Speech option and frequency altering for hearing compensation. All these features suggest we’re talking about an entry-level phone for elderly or children. It’s not like U.S. Cellular is known for offering high-end smartphones, though that could change this summer (they say Android smartphones are coming).

If you’re interested in CDM8635, you can find it on U.S. Cellular’s website and take it from there. Personally, I haven’t been able to find it, but you may try it with your ZIP code.
