iTunes Music Store starts to offer ringtone-compatible songs – Ringtone service is now live

iTunes ringtone service and songs now available for iPhone ringtones

Apple has gone live with their iTunes ringtone-making service today. Songs have started to pop up in the iTunes Music Store with that telltale icon indicating that the song is eligible to be converted into a ringtone through iTunes (of course).

Again, the iTunes ringtone service will cost you another $1 on top of your song purchase, so we’d recommend judicious use of your iPhone ringtone-making-finger. Or, you know, make your own ringtones for free and upload them to iTunes for syncing with your iPhone (until Apple releases iTunes 7.4.2 to disable all home-made ringtones, that is).

Fire up iTunes and go look for those songs with the little “bell” icon under the ringtones column. Oh, you’ll have to add the “ringtone” column by right-clicking the column headers and adding the “ringtone” column. iTunes will ask you to scan your current library to look for ringtone-compatible songs, all it to do so and you’ll be whisked away to the world of iPhone ringtone goodness.

Have fun with all those iPhone ringtones that are now at your disposal. But, keep in mind that too much fun will cost ya.
