Nokia and Reuters team up to mobilize journalism

Nokia and Reuters team up to mobilize journalismNokia Research Center and Reuters are working together on a mobile journalism project to transform the way journalists work on the field. The idea is to equip journalists with Nokia’s latest camera-equipped smartphones and I guess other accessories (i.e. Bluetooth keyboard) to allow them to report directly from the place where the news is happening.

The trial involved a select group of Reuters journalists who filed stories from events like New York’s Fashion Week and Edinburgh Film Festival, and the two companies also used Comvu’s GPS integrated video-streaming technology…

The thing I find interesting is that Nokia also announced that a group of university students will use the application in coming months. Meaning, we could see these tools released to the general public in the not-that-distant future. After all, we ARE in the era of citizen journalism now… Full press release is available from here, and the footage and download stills from the trial here.
