Broken elevator sends automatic SMS to alert engineers

an elevatorYou’ve probably heard the scenario. Suddenly, who knows why, the elevator stops and you’re left all alone in it waiting for a neighbour to come by and call the engineers to fix the damn thing.

Thanks to the new Ascom’s system called UPAC you won’t have to wait anyone to alert the repair workers — the system will handle all the alerting automatically by sending a text message to predefined numbers when elevator stops.

According to Ascom’s Product Manager Torbjorn Enberg, “the application ensures that a message always will reach its target. For example if a lone worker presses the alarm button the system will pinpoint the location and notify a responsible person to assist. If he/she is unavailable or can not answer, the alarm can be directed to the next person/team or be sent to a GSM mobile.”

Sounds good, doesn’t it? Too bad it’s a brand new thing and probably costs a fortune…
