Sprint and Clearwire kick off renewed talks over WiMAX

Sprint and Clearwire start talks over WiMAX againAnd we thought we left all the drama and gossip behind when we graduated high school. After calling it quits on their relationship a few months ago, Sprint and Clearwire are apparently sparking up their romance once again. The two companies are reportedly in talks over WiMAX network deployment in the US, and could even get additional funding from Google and Best Buy.

Sprint’s been falling on hard times recently, and they really need their XOHM/WiMAX venture to pan out for them. It makes sense that they’d get back with Clearwire to talk about the good old days. They were so good for each other, it would be a shame to see this second round of negotiations hit the fan.

Sprint doesn’t have money to burn, and a strategic partnership with Clearwire would help subsidize the network deployment costs on both sides. We have a hard time believing that Sprint can pull of this whole WiMAX deal without a partner or investor, and since Clearwire is already in with Google, Sprint could be looking a little desperate at this point.
