All good business models seek to diversify their market position as much as possible, and Texas Instruments is definitely looking to expand their product offerings in the competitive mobile processor market. Texas Instruments (TI) is known for their famed OMAP processor lineup that has been powering many a smartphone for quite some time now (with 40% of revenue coming from mobile processors), but now they want to break out from that mold.
TI has announced that it is planning to use its OMAP3500 processor lineup in music players, medical imaging equipment, and navigation systems. The OMAP3503 chipset should hit the market within a month, with the OMAP3515, OMAP3525 and OMAP3530 processors available in 2H 2008.
“We’re basically making this technology available to thousands of customers instead of tens of customers,” said Neil Anderskouv, vice president of TI’s digital systems business.
