TELUS Continues Support of Japanese Relief Efforts

TELUS is continuing their support of Japanese relief efforts by extending their free long distance (to Japan) program until April 30th. To date, TELUS customers have already made 40,000 free calls to Japan on their mobile devices and home phone lines since the program was initiated in March.

CMO David Fuller commented on the extension:

“The tragedy in Japan continues to affect TELUS team members and our customers, and we want to do what we can to support them at this challenging time, so we will continue to offer free calls with their loved ones until April 30…The entire TELUS team will do what we can to offer our ongoing support through this terrible situation that has affected so many.”

Still no word if text messaging will become a free option here… to date free voice calling for subscribers to Japan is the deal. I’m sure many would appreciate free texting as well, but hey, free voice to Japan is tremendous support… especially for those with friends and loved ones in the land of the rising sun.

If you’re looking for ways you can help, you can also text ‘QUAKE’ to 45678 to donate $10 to The Salvation Army in Canada… Also, you can text ‘ASIA’ to 30333 to donate $5 to The Canadian Red Cross Society.

Side Note: Since 2000, TELUS has donated more than $1,000,000 to Canadian registered charities in support of humanitarian relief in Chile, Haiti, Kelowna, Newfoundland and the Philippines. Good on ’em.
