MeeGo 1.2 released for device makers and developers

MeeGo has recently updated its open-source platform, releasing version 1.2 for device makers and developers. No, you can’t update your Nokia N900, but you can install the so called “Developer Edition“, the process that will require some technical knowledge.

According to the official announcement, the MeeGo 1.2 Core OS provides a complete set of enabling technologies for mobile computing. The MeeGo Core stack includes Reference Kernels that support a variety of Intel Atom and ARMv7 platforms, QML Application Framework and extended Qt-Mobility APIs (including additional location, system, connectivity, and sensor/haptic capabilities), and enhanced telephony and connectivity capabilities.

In addition, this release also comes with Netbook UX 1.2 complete set of core applications for netbooks, In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) UX 1.2 with a sample IVI Homescreen and speech recognition enabled Application Launcher built with QML and a collection of commonly used applications, Tablet Developer Preview and MeeGo SDK 1.2 for MeeGo Core OS and supported UXs…
