I rarely talk about MMORPGs (massively multi-player online role playing games) because I don’t play them. The idea with this article isn’t to talk about the game itself, but about the initiative the game developer (PerBlue) is running, allowing some 800,000 Parallel Kingdom players to turn virtual food into real meals for the upcoming Thanksgiving Day.
Under the program, players can purchase their choice of Food Basket Hats, an avatar enhancement, with Food, a purchasable and tradable in-game commodity, which will result in a cash donation to help combat homelessness and hunger in the United States. There are two limited edition Food Basket Hats to choose from: the red Food Basket Hat for 750 Food and will provide a Thanksgiving meal to one homeless child; and the golden Food Basket Hat that can be purchased for 6,000 Food and will provide a Thanksgiving meal to an entire family.
