Meizu, which is arguably the world’s best known iPhone cloner, unveiled a new smartphone – Meizu MX. The device looks pretty slick and is also pretty powerful. It comes with a dual-core 1.4GHz processor, 4-inch touchscreen with 960×640 pixels resolution a la iPhone, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel camera on the back, front-facing VGA camera, HSPA+ and Wi-Fi connectivity, and 16GB of internal storage. Meizu’s own software is running on top of Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, though the Ice Cream Sandwich update will be released in the future.

The Meizu MX will be available in mainland China and Hong Kong starting January 1st for about $470. We’ve no idea whether it will ever be released elsewhere, but we’re sure that’s something Meizu would like to see happening. And although their latest product looks like it’s made by Apple, so do many other smartphones released these days so I guess at the end they may find their way to the Western customer. We’ll see…
