In a home network, far, far, away…..
This is just a brief post to recap where on the space map we are with Rocketship Apple, and it’s journey to Planet Apple

So, the component list to deploy in the home network (for which the incumbent was largely window-based):
- Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n wireless router
- Apple iPhone 3G
- Apple MacBook Pro
- Apple TV
And where are we with those:
Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n wireless router – DONE
Apple iPhone 3G – DONE
Apple MacBook Pro – TBC during this week or next
Apple TV – TBC by end of year
Most importantly, though if we consider the issues thus far, and perhaps give each stage a score out of 10, how do things come out:
Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n wireless router – 8/10
Apple iPhone – 4.5/10
Apple MacBook Pro – TBC
Apple TV – TBC
TOTAL: 12.5/20 (out of 20 currently, as two stages complete) – or about 63% effective!
Of course, this is my own arbitrary scoring system, based on the good (and the bad) that has been in the process of rolling out Apple network elements (whether working together or on their own), but I feel it’s a fair reflection of the satisfaction thus far that I have.
Now, here’s the poser question, particularly for those of you out there that have lots of Apple kit – do you think that Apple is perceived as better by those that aspire to own their products, than those that actually own it? My feeling is that even those owners of Apple kit, for whatever faults it has, still love it. Me personally, at this stage – I’m fairly ambivalent because of the iPhone calendar and email issues (see here), which were functions I really needed. I’ll be interested to see what you guys make of it….
