A Kickstarter project turns pretty much any smartphone into a scanner

Talk about a useful accessory. A Kickstarter project called Scanbox promises to turn pretty much any smartphone into a scanner. Sure, there are apps that are touted to do the same thing, but it’s not that easy. The lighting may not be perfect, your hand shakes… This portable scanning box solves that problem keeping your device steady while taking a photo. The device is pretty simple, easy to carry around and I love it, having secured myself the better, Plus model.

The difference between the basic version (available for $15 plus shipping) and the Plus one (costs $10 more) is that the latter is completely enclosed by an additional back section, helping diffuse light and reduce lens flare whilst maximizing the scans color vibrancy. Moreover, this model also comes with a set of LED Lights with wires (BYO 9V battery) so you can use Scanbox pretty much anywhere.

Designed to fit photos and documents up to a maximum of US Letter and A4 paper size, the Scanbox project has not only reached its set goal of raising $12,000, but has well surpassed it, with more than $110,000 pledges from over 3,500 backers…

Check out how it works from a demo video below, after which you may decide to join the army of backers. Can’t wait to get my unit. 😉
