Don’t you just hate when companies fail to reach an agreement for a standard. HD-DVD or BlueRay, CDMA or GSM, and now DVB-H or T-DMB. Who cares – just reach the damn agreement, and give us a single standard that will work around the globe.

Dual-mode tuner unites mobile TV standardsLuckily, companies like Sharp understand this, and they’ve developed the dual-mode tuner (VA3B5EZ915) capable of receiving both DVB-H and T-DMB terrestrial digital broadcast signals. As expected, Sharp’s tuner is designed to be embedded in mobile devices (i.e. mobile phones), and is therefore battery friendly (43 mW), quite small and compact (8.0×8.0x1.25 mm). So, if everything goes right, we’ll soon see all handset makers using these tuners in their mobile TV-enabled handsets. After all, worldwide roaming is not enough — we want to use other mobile services around the planet as well. (via: slashphone)
